It’s been a long journey from Balangir and Cuttack to Calcutta. A longer journery from being a child prodigy to a dancer per excellence. Aloka Kanungo has traversed a long path to reach the illustrious Durbar Hall of Rashtrapati Bhawan to receive the prestigious and coveted Sangeet Natak Akademi Award, an award and recognition long due. Her dedication to Odissi Dance needs no further description. One of her most amazing qualities is her eagerness to learn new things even today. She is not hesitant to take suggestions from her students… In her own words, ‘Guru Sishya parampara is a two-way process. I try to impart whatever I know to my students and I try to learn from them.’
Sangeet Natak Akademi Award 2015…

To celebrate her success her students from all over the world came together and organised an evening of Odissi Dance ‘Alokanjali’ on 30th July, 2016.
